As well as tucking carpet at the wall between the base board and the tackless strip, stair tools are used with a mallet to tuck carpet into the corners of stair treads. Being 4" wide is can tuck in more carpet at once. The grip is textured for enhanced grip and features a soft cushion to reduce vibration.

The tool's corner may fit completely into an inside corner region for tucking thanks to the backward-angled outside edges, which also create an offset that protects walls. The carpet won't be snagged or cut by the smooth, tapered blade.
